Spending Cuts doesn’t necessarily solve (US) Debt
Unemployment is what, 9.3%, and 1 in every 15 person is poor. Simultaneously, the human capital is declining and regressive and consumer/economic and capital activity are shrinking, dislocating many Americans. Therefore while debt and deficit reduction are necessary strategies to balance the books, it must not dismiss the broader picture that government should spur economic activity where private sector is disappearing. Revenues must be included in the discussion for there to be any real solution to deficit reduction; and this should be incrementally applied: for instance, expand tax code and dismantle the tax loopholes and some breaks. Then later incremental increases in property, inheritance and personal Inc. Tax (those getting over $250,000 per annum could be added. In the mean time greater investment in the human capital and infrastructure, science, I.T. And technology and research and development. While the poor and vulnerable are given more opportunities and assistance to live more comfortably and contribute to bolstering the US economy.
Debt reduction is not easily resolved through spending cuts. Spending cuts is not the automatic solution to debt; this is an instant quick-fix crackpot strategy. We must study the global and local economic situation in relation to each other. A careful understanding of the US economic position in the world would create a more focussed and intelligent debate which leads to plausible and logical solutions. But irrational commitments to blind dogmas and reckless ideologies has made us selfish and hostage to our own needs without considering others and the "good of the nation". Put party aside and let's pursue a higher ethic. If we force spending cuts in an already strapped economy with mounting unemployment and rising poverty, then there'll be greater Social upheaval which will lead to distress and unrest. While Social Welfare only deals symptomatically with income inequality and poverty, it's a necessary evil, as it keeps the "lumpen" the poor underclass happy and maintains the social order and status quo.
