Arguments Against Islam...
What if Christian or Jewish groups at ground zero were planning on expanding their facilities? It would be o.k. right? Because they are less violent and not responsible for the 9/11 catastrophe. But this justification/argument is flawed because we are making scathing generalizations and denying the fact that all religions have demons in their closet. We blame Muslims for 9/11, so they shouldn't build at ground zero and maybe they shouldn't even live in New York or the US. But are all Muslims responsible for some rogue misfits in the religion? Should we blame the Tea Party for a few racist in their party that promote racism? You see, we are being too emotional. Its like arguing that I smoke marijuana because I'm a Jamaican and all Jamaicans smoke "weed" but this is a fallacious argument and this is exactly what is being argued in the mosque ground zero situation. Every group has exceptional individuals and hence we must be careful about forming opinions about a group based on this.
By the way, the reason so many New yorkers were against the Center, was based on the fact that they haven't heard all sides. I was against it until I heard the full story
Some such as my friend Shane Barnett argue that this move was a provocation but,
Why ... provocation? I believe those who argue that it is a provocation are insinuating that those who are operating this mosque are behind the 9/11 attacks. Subliminally you oppose the building of the mosque because you assume and are blaming "Muslims" in general for 9/11. Fifty years from now we will still oppose the expansion of this youth center that will provide greater help to youth in the area. Our blame is misplaced. We blamed Iraq for 9/11 and ended up bombing them then realized that they weren't responsible but it was al quaeda. Shall we punish these patriotic American Muslims who want to make a difference?
