Will A Quadrant Really Help Leaders Who Are Overwhelmed To Manage More Effectively?
It is said that “many leaders find themselves feeling overwhelmed because they do not know how to effectively manage the tasks or projects that are on their plate.” Kingsley Grant, Founder if Emotelligence Leadership Institute suggested a quadrant that will help you determine what you must do and what others should do.
But, you know why they’re overwhelmed? It’s because they’re trying to figure out what goes in each of those quadrants or what is really important and what weight to give a matter so that it is either important and or urgent or not. Don’t over complicate the small stuffs or complicate the complex with complex categories that no one has time to unpack.
People don’t work in those parochial mechanical robotic terms anymore. In this tech tonic world that has simplified some processes through computerized systems and where leadership is no longer pyramidic but horizontal. And where team is key, and what is important and urgent changes with the changing demands of the world our work and our bottom lines.
Kingsley Grant ❘ Founder - Emōtelligence Leadership Institute disagreed saying:
“Renaldo, stop over complicating and speak in simple terms. If you’re having a hard time understanding these quadrants, I’m ... hmmm 🤔”
In my response I wrote, (having studied and practiced and taught this particular method), it’s reductionist and archaic. Not necessary and I’ve evolved from that mundane, simplistic and inflexible theory or approach. If you want to get bogged down in putting tasks in boxes that you can’t even weigh and do repetitive work go ahead. Use your day to do that and see where it goes. Let’s see the, practicality of it...
#Monday September 9, 2020: After providing a critique which questions the relevance of the “Quadrant” as a useful tool for leaders to effectively manage their work/teams, #KingsleyGrant & co. accused me of trying to be complex, wanted a promotion or to be seen. But for those who are not use to having to defend their #thesis or their hypothesis and for those who find unusual a critique & analysis of their theory/plan, I’d like to tell you it’s not unusual; you maybe in the wrong business of having an opinion and sharing it... I.e. if you find disagreements and critique against such things abnormal. And for Kingsley Grant ❘ Founder - Emōtelligence Leadership Institute who assume I’m looking a promotion, I’d like to say: IF I’D WANTED A #PROMOTION I’’D AGREE WITH YOU. But that’s our #problem; in order to be promoted in life, we have to play #agree or #yesman. You will not find that from me. My #critique has provided much more engagements on your subject matter, which is important as you develop & shape #theories and “best practice”. You must be able to defend or as we say in “apologetics” #apologize logically your #hypothesis, presentation or #dissertation. As #leaders & professionals it is important to have #criticalthinking & to #explore ... through though-provoking questions that #pushes the #bar.
