RBG’s Death: A Loss Or An Opportunity? It Is A Matter Of Right Perspective
RBG Death May Seem As A Loss To Progressives, But Is Actually An Opportunity for Democrats To Take Back The House And The Senate this November, it is a matter of perspective!
The chance to pick the next Supreme Court Justice and tip the balance of power on the court more right, possibly threatening certain monumental equal rights issues and undermining some protections such as Obamacare and Roe vs. Wade, abortion and gay rights among others, may seem like a win for the GOP and Trump. But while this may be true, what is also true is that this also creates an opportunity or a possibility of a win for the Dems.
While it may seem as a “good” thing it may also cost the GOP and Trump the election and many elections to come if they were to pick a justice before the election making the court a very right court. This will mean the greatest turn out ever this November 3, 2020 at an American election.
This pick will will mean that the right controls the Courts, the White House and the Senate. This is not good and Americans prefer a more balanced and diverse political leadership with the right and left controlling various branches within a given cycle with each mitigating and cancelling out the other and placing checks and balances on the other. But this won’t happen if Trump and McConnell get their way... but the voters will have to institute these checks and balances.
Americans have never allowed any one ideology to dominate American power and the branches of government. So to maintain the balance and accountability, Americans will continue to do what they do come out and vote in a way that preserve that purity. Mitch McConnell, Trump and the GOP should not celebrate just yet and should not be too quick to rush through a pick. This is a bad idea.
Voters can support a Trump White House and a republican dominated senate; but will not support a decision that pushes that balance a particular way that privileges the political power of the day. They will not also support a conservative judge to replace a liberal justice tipping the court 6-3 and more “right” and upending the “balance of power” that is usually couched in the the idea of the “branches of power”. The public can’t vote for a Supreme Court justice, but they can vote for the President and members of Congress and the senate and they will vote in this election to restore the power of the branches of government and a more balancing of political power.
The people cannot and will not allow one ideology to hold sway over the public. While the court will remain conservative, the political branches of power will remain a challenging force. And while Mitch McConnell and Trump have indicated that they will try and push through a court nominee before the election, they are yet to do so and may not do so so quickly as they are also counting the political fall out and losses from doing so. It is not as clear cut as they had first thought it would be. That dam RBG has actually thrown a wrench into everything; it complicates this election even more with all that is happening. RBG death now may seem like a loss to progressives, but it is actually an opportunity to take back the house and the senate!
