#Breaking: Facebook Adds New Powers To Itself To Control Your Freedoms
“Did you get this notification from Facebook today?, Mantas Jalinskas writes.
“Effective October 1, 2020, Facebook is updating its Terms of Service to add in this clause, ❝We also can remove or restrict access to your content, services or information if we determine that doing so is reasonably necessary to avoid or mitigate adverse legal or regulatory impacts to Facebook.❞ You can preview the new terms here: https://lnkd.in/duZffMv”
But I find this to be very concerning Because some things such as managing and controlling content on Facebook should be left up to us to decide to restrict or remove. If I deem a Facebook content or info to be unsafe then as a user I should have that power not Facebook or some big government. We want less government interference in our lives yet these actions suggest otherwise. You know what social media do. It flattens the control of information or disperses it so that anyone or everyone can have access so no one has any dominance or monopoly. But when you put those kind of controls, it threatens that level of access and freedom. It places a tariff on information that is decentralized and deconcentrated tranferring controls time the few over the masses.
Facebook is a social media platform and social interactions are casual and not determined by legislation. Social media is an extension or improved way of people in society getting together in a non-formal or casual way. It is as if we are talking or meeting at a social gathering or linking up in the streets. In human everyday social interactions, we are bombarded with various stimuli and we usually pick and choose for ourselves what is worthwhile and what is not to assess whether to accept, engage or disengage or deny those But interactions. Unless we are minors or children with parental controls. But now we have social media; a virtual form of this human social interacting and sharing. It is not mainstream media but casual media or a computerized platform for human interactions that would normally happen through mail or daily physical or non-physical contact. It is we who are the recipient or users of social media who must have the control to manage dangerous media. Top-down policy like this suggest that people are dumb or can’t make decisions.
However if we are concerned then we may want to consider: Take Back Your Free Speech... When Social Media Companies Control You...
