This #Christmas May We Rediscover It’s Truer Meaning... To Give Unselfishly Of Self, By Going Above & Beyond To Spread “Acts” Of Kindness.

So yesterday, I was heading to the office. Half way there I saw a lady that was struggling to clean off her motorcar in the aftermath of the dreadful storm, as it was inundated with ice and snow. She looked distressed and was seemingly overwhelmed and as I drove by her, I suddenly came down with this drive to stop my car and to help this “poor” woman in distress. I was already late for an appointment with a client but wanted to help this lady who was caucacasian. I, a black man, pulled over, took my shovel and snow scrapers out and ran to her car and started cleaning off the snow and digging the ice from around her car tires. It took me no more than 4 - 5 minutes. While cleaning, the woman whose name I didn’t get said “I don’t have any money to give or tip you sir”. I paused a second and turned and replied, I’m not doing this to be paid mam, but you can help by passing on the love... pay me by spreading this gift of benevolence and help someone”. She looked on with glee and shock and said “ok are you an angel”. I responded as I was setting to finish up and rush back to my car “aren’t we all or at least can be, am I not your brother from another mother”. she smiled and asked “... really how much money do you need I don't really have any money on me right now but...” I interrupted her saying “as much I would love to get your money, I did it to help without expecting anything but you could spread the love of Christmas as told by Jesus which is to spread the love and pass it on by showing acts of kindness. She said “sure, you know I was having a tough day you just made it better!”

Now isn’t that’s a blessing .... both for me and for her. Whatever happened to all of that? Those simple acts of kindness with everyone you meet. We have become so myopic and shortsighted. We cannot see beyond ourselves, the opportunities to help and spread joy and love!

By the way, I must say that after I left  that woman, I had one of the best days yet. You see that’s part of the secret to unlocking divine intervention in our human lives (more on this about “unlocking divine intervention” soon as I’m working on a book project on this subject).

Importantly, here’s the crux of the matter, that this Christmas we will rediscover it’s truer meaning... to give of oneself, by going above and beyond to spread acts of kindness and goodwill so as to bring joy and hope to our fellow men and women. We have become so full of self without any thought of the other that we fail to see anyone beyond ourselves our immediate concern.

But may we take hold of the opportunities to spread peace and hope to everyone we can by transcending our busy egotistical lives to think about the other. Isn’t that what’s life about and what is ultimately important... Loving the divine with our heart soul and mind by giving ourselves to others who are your “neighbors”; everything else (written in the scriptures and various sacred writings and books) is culture. And who is your neighbor....? Everyone... you meet or come in contact with, all of Gods people! And what did Jesus asks of Peter...”do you love me...?” And twice Peter replied “Yes I like you” until he finally get it and replied “yes I love you!”; so that Jesus could now say ... then “go and feed [or help] my sheep or my children!” Because true love demonstrates itself in sacrificial and constructive means. If we truly love and regard the divine then this love should translate in our acts of kindness and benevolence to others unconditionally; this is the true worship.

The fact is as we move away from things sacred and spiritual to relying more on science, materialism and tech-tonic secularism, human intellectualism and rationalism devoid of the ultimate concern and faith , we are teetering into chaos and confusion and a crazy divide where we cannot compromise and cannot agree, instead we want to separate from others which is outside of the blueprints of life. For what is the ultimate of all things? That we become one with reality and with humanity in all of our individuality and it is by going above and beyond to demonstrate love for one another by showing acts of kindness and at times making compromises. God gave of his son Jesus forgoing his fiery to serve and to sacrifice illustrating what it means to be truly human!
