ARE REPUBLICANS THE NEW PHARISEES...?

The deficit has sky-rocketed (now 3.1 trillion dollars) under Trump’s Administration on the GOP watch, long before the rise of the #Covid-19 #pandemic, and there has been nothing but silence from the Republicans! 

A party that was once touted as a fiscally responsible debt-reducing defenders is now indifferent to the ballooning debt. 

Oh how they castigated and lambasted President Obama for raising the debt by providing a stimulus package in 2010-2014 to help struggling Americans during the economic recovery and to stop the economic free fall following the devastating economic recession in 2008 and ongoing. 

The GOP had an obsession with the idea that the bond market would punish the United States like it punished Greece, making the country’s debt burden unsustainable, and soon. Obsession with the idea of frivolous budgetary irresponsibility. “In this generation, a defining responsibility of government is to steer our nation clear of a debt crisis while there is still time,” Paul Ryan, then speaker of the House, warned, adding that “President Obama has added more debt than any other president before him, and more than all the troubled governments of Europe combined.”

Mr. Obama was almost completely handicapped for most of his presidency as the republicans became known as a party of obstructionists, blocking everything Obama tried to do lamenting that his plans would break an already broken economy. Boy they were dead set on upending Obama’s agenda and Obama had to beg and plead and campaign throughout his presidency on almost every issue so as to apply public pressure on the GOP led Congress and Senate to get them to pass and finance his agenda. 

This has come full circle but the GOP are now aloof under their President who has exacerbated the national debt! It was a Trump Platform, in 2016, to reduce the debt. But coupled with his personal company’s large expense bill on the country’s national purse etc. our national debt has quadrupled and the Republicans are now... not set on stopping this President and are extremely and unusually quiet.

But this is not news. The GOP are the new Pharisees. They practice the religion of preaching one thing and doing the complete opposite! They say do as I say but not as I do!

   self-righteous person; a hypocrite. 

Are we not seeing this very same “MO” played out where the Senate is having a hearing to confirm a conservative justice nominee Amy Comey Barrett, to fill a liberal justice seat Vacant when the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed. By having this hearing so close to and or during a presidential election, the GOP are defying their message, promise and preach. 

Back in March 16 2016, President Barack Obama nominated a Moderate Judge Merrick Garland for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States to succeed a Conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, who had died one month earlier. At the time of his nomination, Garland was the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

This vacancy arose during Obama's final year as president, and shortly after Scalia's death was announced. But even before Obama had named Garland, and in fact only hours after Scalia's death was announced, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declared any appointment by the sitting president to be null and void. He said the next Supreme Court justice should be chosen by the next president—to be elected later that year. Senate Democrats criticized the move as being unprecedented, and responded saying that there was sufficient time to vote on a nominee before the election.
Similarly Senator Lindsey Graham said he would refuse to confirm a Republican’s Supreme Court nominee in a presidential election year. Now he is rushing to deliver President Trump’s third justice. “I want you to use my words against me,” Mr. Graham said then, swearing that he would hold the same stance even if it meant denying a future Republican president the chance to confirm his chosen nominee.

Unfortunately Mr. Graham, Mr. Mitch McConnell and the GOP have not kept their word or follow their tune; they are even defiant in their hypocrisy, pharisaism and duplicity! 

“I am certain if the shoe were on the other foot,” Mr. Graham wrote Monday to Democrats on the judiciary panel, “you would do the same.”

A complete reversal and or an indication of their new identity of Pharisees betraying their principles and messages and now they may pay the price as many are predicting a bloodbath come November 2020 as even some of the strongest red states may be in play for democrats. 

I hope that this may provide an opportunity for the GOP to drain their swamp and get back on track and stop playing with the heart and soul of America!
