Update on The Russian-Ukrainian War: Russia Wants Ukraine To Withdraw Its Intensions Of Joining NATO. Ukraine Rejects Proposal, And Rightly So; I’ll Explain.

Russian and Ukrainian negotiators continue to negotiate in Turkey. Russia wants Ukraine to withdraw its intensions of joining NATO. Ukraine has rejected that proposal, and rightly so; I’ll explain.

Russia does not want Ukraine to join NATO, because Putin believes that this is a strategy by the West to penetrate and have access. But, isn’t that Ukraine’s right as a sovereign independent nation to want to become a member of NATO if it serves their own national interests? A country (and not just any country, Russia a super power) would invade and destroy hundreds of lives and communities because of its suspicions about another (Ukraine a developing nation) joining up with others (NATO) it does not like so as to protect its own interests without considering the interests of the other as if the only interest is Russia. Further, if Ukraine were to become a member of NATO, would it not add a layer of protection and safety for the Ukrainians; so that they wouldn’t have to be exposed or put up with Putin’s invasion.
So, Putin’s fears of what it means if UKRAINE were to join NATO is a moot one given this war. If Putin believe that Ukraine being a member of NATO would give the west a key to the region, going to war with Ukraine over it does not strengthen his argument. Because as at now, Ukraine has a greater and more understandable reason why they would want to and should be a member of NATO; they would be able to close their airspace and would have had a faster and more immediate response from NATO.
Moreover, it would seem that Russia does not want Ukraine to join NATO because it would not be able to have its way and lead an invasion like the one it’s embarking on now. Indeed, if Ukraine were to become a member of NATO, this would embolden and provide it with more leverage over and protection from Russia who wants to maintain its dominance in the region. Therefore, Russia’s request is disingenuous and bizarre or to little too late at this point if the game or the war or the invasion. The only agreement that would make sense would be for Russia to withdraw and save face
