Mass Shootings Rising in America! Why?
Mass Shootings are rising in America. Why? There has been more mass shooting in the last three months than there ever was in recent history, since lynchings were made illegal, and segregation ended in America. In fact, according to USA today: between February 17th and 19th:
Eleven (11) people were shot in Memphis.
Five (5) people were injured near a parade in New Orleans.
Six (6) people were shot on a Chicago expressway.
That's just half of the reported mass shooting violence over the weekend.
There were 10 mass shootings from Feb. 17 through Feb. 19 – the most of any weekend so far this year, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive. That’s considering all shootings from Friday to Sunday in which four or more people were shot, not including the shooter or shooters. The number of shootings over the weekend is unusual for mid-February in the U.S., experts told USA TODAY. The incidents come on the heels of several high-profile mass shootings in California last month, as well as an attack at Michigan State University last week, (Hauck, Grace, Three days. 10 mass shootings. More than 50 victims. US sees worst weekend of 2023, in USA Today dated, February 20, 2023, Three days. 10 mass shootings. More than 50 victims. US sees worst weekend of 2023. (yahoo.com)

Why are there so many Mass shootings? Is it due to relative deprivation, where there are high levels of income inequality and poverty? Poverty and income inequality is at its highest in the US. But this may not be the only factor. Hence the purpose of this short blog. Ascertaining the motive of mass killings is vital to preventing any more in the future. We're stuck on just gun reform as if that drives motives. The last three mass shootings weren't couched in extremist ideology, but the killers took out a personal grudge or vendetta on crowds of people. Situations where they were either mistreated or wrongly accused which affected their lives negatively to the point where they are pushed to violence. It can happen to anyone who feels that they were wronged which has affected their lives and does not believe in any agency outside of personal vengeance against those responsible and the world as if the world bears some blame for their lack of agency and problems. Let's share an actual story that explores this anecdote.
Sometime ago I met a Driver who felt succumbed by the weight of vengeance and violence. He shares with me how he has not been able to work and is on the verge of eviction because of a situation that occurred at a local car rental dealership. He stated that they rented him a damaged car and when he protested and returned it, they removed his rental privileges which he claimed was vindictive. He has not gotten any justice and has not been able to work since, and now he is broken, seems hopeless, and is becoming driven by anger against the car rental company to the point where he shares how he dreams of taking a gun and spraying on the entire car rental staff and those present. He has come to a place where he does not care. Life is treating him hard despite of working hard. He has become angry with not just the hertz company and Uber but the world and its systems. Is this what motive looks like? Is this what drive some people to dangerous revenge? In 2016 there was a story in the news where a Case Management Director was attacked by a former employee due to unresolve human resources issues.
This is worth exploring. If companies are not resolving local customer service and workers issues properly, then this may also breathe a violent response from customers and workers/former employees that leads to mass killings. As such, we may want to ensure that we put systems in place that effectively resolve customer and worker issues.
