But this news, may change that https://jcf.gov.jm/stat. Further, are there any correlational effects as a result of this such as what is happening with poverty and income inequality if crime and violence is falling rapidly.
If poverty and income inequality are still high, while crime is falling would suggest a misnomer or a problem for Marxist Materialists who asserts a Relative Deprivation theory.
This theory asserts that societies with high crime suffer from high poverty and income inequality. So, we would need to ascertain these new numbers surrounding poverty and inequality in Jamaica.
On the other hand, the US, a post-industrial superpower is experiencing sharp increases in serious crimes and just today the FBI reports suggest mass shootings are also on the rise and is higher than in recent years. 7 mass shootings in the last 7 days. Yet, Jamaica's crime rate is down 30 percent. However, recent studies show that income inequality has risen sharply over the last ten years and poverty is rising in black and brown communities. This does not explain the hate crimes and mass shootings in America. Further, while we have recent poverty and income inequality figures for the US, we do not have any recent number for Jamaica where majority of its working population operate within the informal economy which is not properly included within the country's GDP. Nevertheless, the US wealthiest population use tax-haven countries and various tax loopholes to hide their earnings which may also affect calculation of its GDP.
This is explored further in my upcoming book" Neoliberal Globalization reconsidered, Neo-Capitalism and the Death of Nations.
