Diversity Is More Than Just Having Black and Brown People as “Figure Heads”to Obfuscate The Obvious

Writing about the importance of Diversity, Carly Fiorina said that “ without diversity you get trapped in groupthink”.  https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/groupthink-carly-fiorina She went on to say that: “Productive disagreement is vital. Why? Because our brains are wired to grow and learn only when we’re challenged. We cannot grow and learn – which means we cannot solve new problems; we cannot challenge the status quo; we cannot lead – if we continue to surround ourselves with the same people, the same ideas, the same old same old”. You are spot on Carly Fiorina. Because for some #diversity means to create a facad to obfuscate the obvious that what counts for diversity is a shell or a movie studio with a scene of a beautiful town only that when one walks in there’s nothing behind the structures. Some firms think that having one or two black or brown people in leadership positions as “figure heads” and provide a photo-op for their company that they’re inclusive or diverse but when you...

COVID-19 Is Prompting “Wealthy” People to Move Out of Cities.

COVID-19 Is Prompting “Wealthy” People to Move Out of Cities. Thereby putting a wrench into gentrification plans and processes that are already in motion. Real Estate prices and cost of living were spiking in cities and towns such as Philadelphia, NYC (especially Harlem), San Francisco-Oakland, Denver, Boston, Miami-Fort Lauderdale and New Orleans, prior to the pandemic, affecting black and brown or low-income families who were being displaced or moved to rural areas.  The gentrification in the 2010s was related to job growth and transit. But as the pandemic continues, the demand to live in central cities may decline prompting the wealthy to move.  In New York City, for examples, some wealthy families have left Manhattan for good and plan to enroll their children in schools closer to their second homes in places like the Hamptons so as to avert any risk of infection when schools reopen in the city in September.  This is not new, the rich has always...

Dirty Pretty Things” and the Visual Realism of Invisibility as Tool of Exploitation in Neo-Liberal Globalization Part 1

Globalization has created tremendous opportunities for many; but it has adversely affected the lives of people who it has fragmented, marginalized and abused. The impact of globalization on the human bodies which are integral to the global economy is grossly understated and overstated because of their ‘invisibility’ which is necessary for profit. This invisibility seems like a fairy-tale story, thus blending fact with fantasy. However, this is strangely true. The global human eyes are blind to some of the most intricate and inhumane realities of this post-modern world. We are oblivious to the mechanical economic order that has created ‘invisible people’ usually of color and from the global south and as a consequence they are susceptible to economic and sexual exploitation.   Hence, as a Black immigrant from Jamaica, I am all to happy that visual media such as the film “ Dirty Pretty Things”  captures and exposes this invisibility and consequent vulnerability of the un...

Hey Joe, Here’s A Better Reply To Trump When He Questions Your Mental Fitness

#Trump says #Biden is not mentally fit as he is for the office. #Biden responded with a weak reply “watch me”. But a more powerful reply should’ve been: “Lol 😂. Whose fitness would you rely on his or mine.... Here’s a man whose own sister described as cruel, dishonest and untrustworthy and whose niece declares in a book as her Family’s Creation of the World's Most Dangerous Man. A man who has failed to lead on the #COVID__19 and embarrassed American exceptionalism in the face of this virus. A man who has undermined American institutions such as the FBI and the defense force and a man who has ignored Russian interference in American electoral system and American leadership in the world. A man that has used law enforcement officers to fire tear gas and other riot control tactics on his people to forcefully clear peaceful protesters from Lafayette Square and surrounding streets for a photo-op. And sent federal agents in spy and terrorist gear to abuse and violate peaceful citizens ri...

We Live In A Free-Market System, Yet The US Govt. Controls Stock Prices.

‪There’s a report today that “...The USgov't controls stock prices and that the Fed and Mnuchin are buying $1,250,000,000,000 (yep Trillions) of corporate bonds resulting in spikes in the stock prices of those companies." (Thomas Kane, @thomaskaine) This is not shocking, as the  stock market is created to “mop up liquidity” and to maintain and extend wealth for those at the top; via an elaborate transfer scheme or “game” where small investors monies are funneled to big capital investors or the really rich. Unless you are connected and have huge sums of money don’t waste your time on trying to make money or get rich via the stock market. There are other things that may guarantee more returns. By the way we are led to believe that we have a free market system and a currency system that is determined by unhindered market and economic forces free from state intervention. But here we have the feds and politicians deliberately able to affect the markets through Wall Street defying g...

Thinking of Innovating May Require One More Crucial Question?

Whitney Johnson WLJ advisor at Brigham University writes that “Thinking of innovating? Here are 6 questions to ask before you start”  https://lnkd.in/eVQKbks However she missed one very crucial question or point: how can I create market appeal? In other words will I make money from this project and if it’s really good an innovation the question is how can I make money? Will it sell? What do I need to do to sell it so that people want or buy into it. You have to think about creating that psychology of need in people’s mind about an innovative thing less you create something and abandon too soon thinking that it’s a failure when it’s the marketing that’s a failure. And by the way Whitney Johnson the situation with #googleglass and iPhone are different in terms of their scope and what these products can do. Further google glass is not yet a failure. Google glass started in 2015 and iPhone 2001. It’s too soon. And there is an article today about google glass expanding. Just recently th...
